Setting a baseline for health assessment

Our part in global
well‑being

Operation soul surf collaborates globally to research and promote surf therapy

Operation Soul Surf is an official contributor to the International Surf Therapy Organization (ISTO) based in California. ISTO is a global community of surf therapy practitioners & researchers harnessing the power of collaboration and the ocean to advance the use of surf therapy as a mental and physical health intervention.

Before and after each lesson we ask our surfers to complete a survey that helps us to collect and collate data that is provided to the global database being built by ISTO. The data we collect will help ISTO advocate for surf therapy to be used globally to improve mental health and well-being.

How we monitor health

Operation Soul Surf is a global ISTO contributor

The ISTO evaluation framework is a set of guidelines setup by the International Surf Therapy Organization to assist in capturing and evaluating health statistics. There are seven sections within this framework that assist us in conducting a basic evaluation. You can read more about the ISTO evaluation framework here.
